Nobody Stamps Your Passport at the EU Border Any More. A Database Now Counts Your Days, and It Does Not Forget.

If you hold a non-EU passport and travel to the Schengen area for short stays, your entries and exits are now recorded biometrically and your days are counted by a database rather than estimated from ink.

What you can do. Before your next trip, add up your days in the Schengen area over the last 180 days. If you have been running close to 90, the margin for error you used to have is gone.

Nearly Half the Honey the EU Tested Failed. The New Label Says Where It Came From, Not What Is In It.

EU border sampling in 2021 and 2022 found 147 of 320 imported honey consignments, 46 percent, carrying at least one marker of added sugar syrup. Since 14 June 2026 EU jars of blended honey must name every country of origin with its share.

What you can do. Read the origin list on the jar as origin only, not purity. Elsewhere, ask your national food agency which honey tests it runs and whether it publishes the results.

Every New Car in Europe Counts Its Own Fuel. For Plug-In Hybrids the Meter Reads About Five Times the Official Figure.

An on-board meter has recorded lifetime fuel use in new EU cars since 2021, and roadworthiness tests collect the reading. For cars registered in 2023, petrol and diesel ran 19 per cent above the official CO2 figure and plug-in hybrids 401 per cent.

What you can do. Where these rules apply, ask at the next roadworthiness test what the car's own fuel meter reads. The European Environment Agency publishes the aggregated figures by registration year.
